Chapter 1

The plane comes to a complete stop and the sudden jolt wakes Elham’s drunk husband from his slumber, then we taxi to the gate. Shaquana rolls her eyes when he sits up and starts to check her makeup in her hand mirror as we roll to the gate and dock. After the docking, the fasten seat belt sign dings off and everyone stands up.

Shaquana says, “I’ll see you at the bathroom in the concourse. I really need to pee and the one up front is out of order.” She pauses and giggles. “I wonder why.”

Elham’s husband looks up and says, “Shit...I was wondering what all that racket was. Should have known this cheap ass airline didn’t bolt everything down.” He taps Shaquana on the shoulder. “Excuse me.”

Shaquana moves aside with a chuckle and I step out for Elham whose fingers trail over mine as she passes to follow her husband out. She gives me a smile and a wink and then heads down the walk way, and out of my life. Never did sign the book though so maybe she will come to a signing if she knows I’m there. Some people are in your life for a reason, some a season...some are both. This was definitely a “reason” moment. Shaquana and I make eye contact, and she grins, then I yank both bags from the overhead as she makes her escape to the bathroom.

I move for a few of the elderly passengers behind us in the first few main cabin rows, and when a guy who must be close to eighty gives me a thumbs up with a grin, I blush and nod my head. I didn’t think anyone in first class or the first few cabin rows were awake.

I start to follow behind everyone shuffling out of the plane and onto the ramp leading up to Orlando International. The airport at Orlando is even busier than Detroit and I loathe coming down here just for that reason. It’s hot...there are way too many people, and it is nuts to butts in these concourse halls and connecting trams...and boy do I fucking hate these trams.

I make it out of the ramp tunnel with a crowd of people surging with me shoulder to shoulder, making it so a panic attack is just a flick of the wrist away. After I make it to a peeling painted column, I breathe a sigh of relief and look for the women’s bathroom. I spot it on the other side of the concourse and head that way, Shaquana’s bag in one hand, mine in the other. As I reach the water fountains outside of the bathroom, Shaquana walks out with a sigh of relief.

“Ahhh, that’s better,” she says, taking her bag from my hand and starting to walk toward baggage claim.

I follow behind her as always to stare at her ass...it never gets old to me. Down two escalators later, we arrive at the packed baggage claim where the rental cars are and the bus to the port which is forty five minutes away on a good day.
